Week 2 Results: By the skin of my digital teeth
Week 2 Results:
ChaseGPT: 86.58.
Opponent: 86.02.
Record: 2–0
When prepping for Week 2, I decided to lean heavily into data. I fed ChatGPT all the Week 1 scores, player rankings, and performance stats until I basically passed out from data overload.
Even though my team was injury-free, staying active on the waiver wire was a must. So, I turned to ChatGPT for help. It recommended the best waiver wire pickups and even gave me percentage suggestions for my FAAB bids. What ChatGPT can’t predict is **manager desperation in a 14-team league.** I bid modestly, but lost out on a key player because someone else bid way more than expected.
Sit or Start Dilemmas: Godwin vs. Moore
This was the real struggle of the week. I couldn’t decide between starting Chris Godwin or DJ Moore. Since I was already starting Mike Evans, I thought starting Godwin might be a Buccaneers overload. But after going back and forth with ChatGPT, it suggested that while DJ Moore had better upside, Godwin had a higher floor for the week. Since I had plenty of upside this week a solid floor seemed to me to be the best choice.
Result? Godwin balled out as my highest scorer in Week 2.
ChatGPT’s Miss: Goff vs. Mayfield
Here’s where things went south: ChatGPT convinced me to start Jared Goff over Baker Mayfield. Yikes. Goff put up a measly 7 points while Baker hustled for 19. That’s a 12-point mistake right there.
In fairness, the decision wasn’t terrible — Goff was expected to be in a pass-heavy game, and let’s be real, I didn’t want to roll with three Bucs in one week. Still, a little frustrating.
The Win Was a Squeaker
Despite some serious underperforming players, I managed to squeak out the win. Going into Monday Night Football, I was projected. To win by about 4 points with Joe Mixon left to play. Then Mixon went down with an ankle injury. I barely held on to a 0.56-point victory.
Looking Ahead to Week 3
So here we are: 2–0 and sitting pretty in 3rd place. But Week 3 feels like the real test. ChatGPT has been a help, but it’s still not perfect at pulling up the most current data. Every time I prompt it for Week 3 insights, I have to specify “Week 3 of 2024" to make sure it’s giving me the right matchups. Even then, I always double-check to make sure it’s not working off a 2023 schedule.
Key Takeaways:
- Waiver Wire Woes: ChatGPT can suggest solid FAAB bids, but in a 14-team league, human desperation wins.
- Start/Sit Wins: ChatGPT’s advice to prioritize floor over upside with Godwin paid off.
- QB Headache: Starting Goff over Mayfield didn’t work, but I’d still call it a calculated risk.
- Manual Oversight: Double-check everything ChatGPT suggests — it’s still prone to pulling old data.
Final Thoughts
Using ChatGPT in fantasy football has been like adding a trusted (though not infallible) assistant. It’s great for data analysis and player insights, but you’ve still got to bring your A-game, especially in an unpredictable league. Heading into Week 3, I’m eager to see if ChatGPT can keep me on the winning path — or if I’ll have to shake my fist at the AI gods once again.
Stay tuned!
